As your children grow up it is so neat to see what the Lord does in and through their lives. Madeline seemed "little" forever. It seems one day I blinked and she was big!
She was finishing her freshman year in high school and was excelling. I knew from the time she was tiny that she was a gifted writer. I didn't know what the future held for her, but if it was college classes I wanted to make sure she was prepared. We weren't willing to compromise on her physical or spiritual safety, but I wanted something outside of what we were doing at home with schooling.
Her sophomore year we sent her to Veritas for math and biology. It was very good for her academically, and I can't say she was exposed to anything horrible. It taught her how to study hard, but there were some things we didn't like about it. At the end of the year Marc said, "Let's see if she can get in at Georgia Military College". (Marc graduated there many years ago!) Not only did she pass the entrance exam..... she got a perfect score on the Language part and high scores on the math! She has been able to do the entire program so far online. This coming quarter she will have her first on campus class.
She is now in her senior year of homeschool and sophomore at GMC! Taking all of the different classes you have to for your core, she has determined that English/Journalism is her passion! I encouraged her to seek an internship at a local newspaper. They hired her as a journalist right on the spot! It was so neat to see how the Lord worked out the details. She has her "press pass" and her recorder. It is pretty neat! She had her first interview a couple of weeks ago and just turned in her first article this week. She interviewed Miss America's mother who owns a physical therapy center.
I think one of the neatest things I have seen during all of this is her faith grow. She has had situations come up that seemed impossible. She has had to learn to appeal, pray and wait on the Lord! I love that she has been willing to make a stand for what is right even when she knew there might be consequences.
I love how unique each one of my children are, and how they all have their own strengths. She will graduate this spring from high school and have her Associates in English/Journalism! Proud of this girls hard work. Anyone that has been around her the past year and a half has seen she has worked her rear off!
