A not so ordinary day

Monday morning was just another ordinary day.  I got up and started laundry, fixed breakfast and mopped floors before we headed out to piano lessons.  While the girls were at their lessons I did some quick shopping at Walmart ( I now get to take all three little boys with me since McKenzie got married! :o)  When we got home we unloaded groceries and fixed lunch.  After lunch I got Malachi started on some school work, laid the baby down for a nap and went upstairs with Myles.  I laid on his bunk bed with him to just spend some time with him reading books.  I remember thinking to myself how nice it was to not have anything pressing to do.  The wedding was over and life was resuming to "normal".

I went back downstairs and kept thinking I needed to get out and get my run for the day over with.  I was already off schedule because I normally would have done it in the morning.  I was just about to go change into my running clothes when the phone rang.  When I answered it there was a female's voice on the other side and I heard her talking to someone else right as I answered the phone.  I heard her say, "He's conscious but breathing hard."  When she realized I had answered the phone she said,  "Mrs. Maynor you need to come to the office quickly.  We have called an ambulance for Mr. Maynor; he's not doing well."  This is NOT the kind of phone call you want to get.  Your mind immediately goes crazy.  I started rushing around getting my purse together while asking her questions.  I told the kids that daddy was sick and I had to go.  I ran and got into our twelve passenger van and drove faster than I have ever driven in my life, down a country road to the neighboring county where he works.  Once in my van I realized that after ten years of living here that I didn't even know how to get to his office!  I called back and one of his co-workers talked me all the way there.  She kept trying to figure out where I was to see if I needed to just go to the hospital instead.  They were trying to decide if they should life flight him or take him in the ambulance, but we knew he was being taken to a hospital in a larger town about 30 minutes away.  I ended up getting to the office in time to meet the ambulance and they let me ride with them.  I don't know that I would have made it driving there myself.  When I saw Marc he was not doing well.  He would answer questions but was no where near acting like himself.  I was so thankful that the driver was a Christian.  He was exactly what I needed during that time.  Once we got to the hospital and got out at the ER,  Marc had gotten worse.  His speech was slurred and he could hardly move his limbs.  Everything pointed to a stroke.  It was at this point that I about lost it.  I called my oldest sister and asked her to come.  It was almost a three hour drive for her but she didn't hesitate!  Sisters are the best!  They did a CT scan and it came back clear.  The doctor told me that it takes a while for damage to show up on a scan and since they didn't see any bleeds that we had to make a decision.  He asked me if we wanted him to have TPA (the stroke medication that has to be given within a four hour window after the onset of symptoms.)  Marc couldn't verbalize a whole lot but he was shaking his head "no".  I looked at him and knew he would not be happy living his life in a wheelchair and having slurred speech.  I talked to my sister (she is a nurse) and she called our aunt who has been a nurse for years.  They told me they thought we needed to do it.  That was really hard!  TPA can have some pretty devastating side affects during the first hours after giving it.  Not a decision I wanted to have to make for him, but I did.

The TPA was given and then he was moved to the neuro intensive care unit.  Social media definitely has it's downside but that day it was great.  The news spread so quickly there were people all over the country praying for him!  Our phones were going off like crazy with text messages from people praying.  I certainly felt the prayers.  Within just a few hours his speech returned to normal and by the next morning he was much stronger.  They ran every test under the sun on him and did blood tests I had never even heard of.  His MRI came back clear.  The only thing that was off was his b12 and potassium.  He has been on a diet (patterned after the Trim Healthy Mama diet in which I think is a very dangerous diet...... That is a whole different topic!) and lost 30 pounds this summer.  I knew he hadn't looked good lately and his energy level was really low.  We still don't have any answers except that a lot of things have been eliminated.  We know that his heart is very healthy and he didn't have a heart attack, we know there aren't any tumors or anything like that.  We know there wasn't any seizure activity.  I would love an explanation for it all but I truly believe the Lord protected him!

When you go through something like that it really makes you ponder things.  Life is short and so very fragile!  Love the people that God has put in your life, you never know when they could be taken away.  Good friends are a treasure!  We had a huge group of friends that came to the ER to be with us.  That is such a blessing!

Well, it is late..... I wanted to journal all of this while it was still fresh on my mind.  I am not going to do any proofreading, so don't critique my writing! :o)  I will try to finish posting pictures from McKenzie and Daniel's wedding soon.  They are doing well and are very happy!

We are BLESSED!

Before the wedding....

Because the wedding reception was going to be outside at our home we began watching the weather ten days beforehand.  I'll never forget Saturday morning, the weekend before the wedding, seeing  60% chance of showers for the 27th!  I sat at the computer thinking to myself,  "Do I tell McKenzie, or not!?"  I decided to announce it to everyone so we could all be praying!  All week long we watched.  It went down to 30% by midweek, then down to 20%, then by Friday it was back up to 30%.  We had tents being set up, portable potties being delivered, setting up tables and chairs.  I was SO nervous!  I also knew that if we backed out and moved it indoors that McKenzie would have been very disappointed.  My sister and her family came down on Thursday to help finish up last minute stuff.  Marc kept assuring me that "God's got it!" so we charged ahead with the plans.

It rained some on Thursday night and when we got up Friday morning we pretty much set up in a sprinkle.  We prayed HARD!

It was all such a whirlwind and we went on very little sleep.  Looking back, so much of it is a fog.

McKenzie was having a hard time eating much of anything the days before the wedding.  She requested sherbet and ginger ale floats. :o)

When the porta potties were delivered they brought the wrong color!  We were told we would get the larger off white "event" potties. (These things are important you know!)  They brought green ones!  McKenzie was upset but it ended up being better because it blended with the fir trees!   We were cracking up because the man let her pick the fragrance of the potties! :o)

Rolling the spools to be used as tables.  So glad we have these now.  They make really cool tables for outdoor parties and the kids love playing on them!

The rehearsal night was cloudy but I don't think it rained that night.  The pastor that performed the ceremony is the same one that married Marc and I 24 years ago, dedicated McKenzie at birth and baptized her.  Pretty special!

Malachi was the ring bearer.  He did such a good job!  They had nine bridesmaids and nine groomsmen!  My sister was the director and she did a fabulous job!  She had never done this before and having such a large wedding party was a challenge!

"Aunt Donna" has been such a big part of McKenzie's life.  McKenzie spent every Wednesday night with her visiting and quilting.  Donna started working on this beautiful quilt for her when McKenzie was only fifteen years old!  This was extra special with my mom being gone.  I know my mom would have been busy making things for McKenzie if she was still here

This pretty much sums up the way we were both feeling that day!

The morning of the wedding McKenzie and I left the house early to go to the salon.  We left a crew of people getting things set up at the house......... in a light sprinkle!

To be continued.........

Happy Birthday, Myles Truth!

Myles has turned 5!  Five is such a great age!  He is more independent.  He has learned how to swim this summer.  He is like a sponge soaking up everything we teach him.  He is full of energy!  He brings much joy and laughter to our home!

I am so thankful that the Lord blessed us with Myles.  We live in a world that so often puts other things as more important than children.  Each one of our children are unique and special.  I love each one dearly!

The name Myles means "soldier".  It is our prayer that Myles will always strive to be a "soldier of TRUTH"!

"that the Lord may fulfill His word which He spoke concerning me, saying, ‘If your sons take heed to their way, to walk before Me in truth with all their heart and with all their soul,’ He said, ‘you shall not lack a man on the throne of Israel.’ 1 Kings 2:4

Happy Birthday, Malachi!

Malachi David turned 8!

Malachi is such a sweet little boy and very easy at this age.  It makes me laugh sometimes when I think about how hard he was when he was three.  There were days when I dreaded him waking up!  I never thought I would see the day when he would quietly wake up in the mornings and play by himself. :o)

He loves Legos, swimming, guns, baseball, swords and dressing up with his little brother Myles.  Myles drives him nuts sometimes but they play hard together.  He hero worships his big brother Matt.  This past summer he took over the trash chore that Matthew has been doing since he was seven.  He is a germ freak so it is a big ordeal.  He usually gags the whole time and when he comes back in he has to scrub his hands with soap!  He told me one day that he definitely did not want to be a trash man when he grows up! (He use to think that would be a cool job.)

Matthew came home from work just in time for cake and ice cream.  He surprised Malachi with a football balloon and a box of sprinkle cookies from the bakery. :o)

Because we are in wedding mode big time right now, I purposed to stop for the day and focus on Malachi.  McKenzie has been a nanny to two little boys for the past couple of years.  We all loaded up and took them with us and spent the afternoon at Monkey Joes and then had dinner at Chick fil A.  I prayed really hard that we would all be protected from germs!  I hate places like that! :o)

I am so thankful that the Lord blessed us with Malachi.  Each child is so unique and brings so much to our family.  I am humbled sometimes when I think of how much we have been blessed.

I pray that Malachi will love the Lord with all his heart and will always strive to seek Him.

"And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.  Jeremiah 29:13

Mariah

Marc took McKenzie and Madeline on a short business trip with him.  It just so happened that while they were gone Matthew got sick.  Thank goodness for Mariah!

Mariah loves the animals, garden and the outdoors every bit as much as McKenzie does.  She was outside getting chores done when it looked like a storm was coming.

I had already showered but knew she would need some help hauling water if she was going to get inside before the storm hit.  Whenever I have to go outside to help with chores it makes me really appreciate all that the kids do every day!  Our billy goat is really mean and has huge horns!  He came charging at me when I tried to water him.  He will be used this fall for breeding and then he has to go!

The above tree is a Bradford Pear that McKenzie and Matt planted in memory of my mom the summer that she died.   I am so glad that it is growing and doing well.  It is outside my bedroom window and will be beautiful one day!

Mariah and "Candy"

I took this picture a couple of weeks ago.  The watermelon field across the street has since been plowed under and replanted.  They planted rye which should be a beautiful, green ground cover by the time the wedding is here!

We have had a pretty mild summer this year but it has been dry lately.  We are praying for rain so everything stays green for the wedding!
