"Buddy"

When Matthew was a little boy he always dreamed of having a big dog that would be his companion. We read about different breeds of dogs, and when we moved to the country we thought a lab would be the perfect fit for him. We bought a six week old yellow lab and named her "Dixie". I remember when Matthew went to the farm to pick his out of the litter; he picked one of the smallest most active ones. He said he didn't want a "fat and lazy dog". Dixie proved to be pretty much a nightmare! She wasn't mean but really made our lives miserable the seven years we had her. We have free range chickens and she would chase them and probably would have killed them. We finally decided we had tortured ourselves long enough and found a big farm for her to go live on. The new owners are happy with her and she is doing great with them.

We were "dogless" for a few weeks and I was content to stay that way. A friend of ours had gotten a full grown registered lab from a breeder going out of business. They didn't know she was pregnant and she ended up giving birth to 13 puppies! Our friend offered one of the puppies to our kids for free! Really doubting my sanity, we agreed to take one.

We had some pretty excited kiddos the night we brought "Buddy" home.

Buddy has changed my attitude towards labs! He is the sweetest dog and is learning to "obey" really quickly. It has made me realize how bad Dixie was! :o)
He is just as laid back as he looks in the pictures and is content to be wherever we are!

Matthew now has his lazy farm dog and companion in "Buddy". :o)
