Kitchen Remodel

Ok, so we had one of the ugliest kitchens ever. :o)  When we bought our home over nine years ago it was not because I loved the kitchen.  The cabinets were a really ugly, dark wood.  The countertops were cheap formica.  Shortly after we moved here we painted the cabinets white and changed the hardware.  It was a cheap way to make it look better.  I still didn't love the kitchen but it was an improvement.

See the lovely chipped formica that Myles picked at? :o)

The sink was leaking and our water filter needed a new faucet..

We are committed to "cash only" with our budget.  If we can't pay for it, we don't do/get it.  This means that sometimes we wait, and wait, and wait.  It seemed like every time we had the cash ready to do the kitchen, something else would take the money.  When they say the kitchen is the most expensive room to remodel they weren't kidding!

I had to throw this picture in here.  I painted this at an art party.  We started with a blank canvas and the artist showed us step by step how to draw it with pencil and then to paint it.  I have no artistic ability whatsoever, so I was very excited with the way it turned out. :o)  It has the "Fruit of the Spirit" scripture painted on it. (I put this on here for you, Oliva!)

My new cranberry curtains make me a little bit sad.  They replaced the last set of curtains that my mom ever sewed for me. :(

Originally we were going to gut the entire kitchen.  Daniel was so sweet and offered to put trim on our existing cabinets and he and Marc painted them.  This cut the cost in half and they look much better!

He also cut one of the cabinets off to match the length of the others.  I'm not sure why they were made that way in the first place.

I'm still planning on putting a black glaze on the cabinets.  I haven't gotten brave enough to do it yet.  I want to watch some youtubes on it before I tackle it.

Madeline's birthday flowers from her daddy. :)

                                            New sink =  MUCH better!

We picked a black granite countertop and a stone back splash.  I am happy with the countertops, but I LOVE the back splash!

I like stainless steel appliances.  They are very pretty when they are shined (which with little ones have to be done a lot!)  Our stove is still the old one.  I can't justify replacing it yet.  The girls are hoping it will die soon!

And...... just for fun,  a picture of some of my Food Network cooking utensils.  I used to have all black ones.  I like the fun colors!

I am happy with the way it turned out.  We remodeled our front bathroom last fall.  We have a couple more projects that we want to do soon and then the rest will have to wait until after the wedding and our budget gets a break! :o)

That looks really nice! It is always pleasant to have a spruced up place to work in.

We also "recently" (actually over a year now) revamped our kitchen, refinishing all the cupboards, painting the walls and ceiling (in the adjoining room also) etc., but have still not quite decided on what to do for the counters.... Trying to pick colors and types of counter is a challenge and unlike paint they are so permanent! Our favorite new addition was the can lighting--we can finally see in this old farm house kitchen :)

Blessings for and Congratulations on the Wedding & Plans too!

Very nice kitchen remodel! I am like you; I too would wait on the stove replacement.

Enjoy the wedding planning!
